about
Yael Feldman Shavit is an artist working primarily with video, installation and sound.
Her work explores the mechanism that constructs fantasy in relation to femininity and the moving image. Through videos, objects or soundtracks, she creates fragments of imaginary scenes often acting herself as a performer of a dramatic role.
Yael was born in Tel Aviv to British parents, and lived in England, Australia and Israel.
She graduated Goldsmiths College in 1995, with a First Class Honours degree in fine art.
Her work was exhibited in group shows in venues such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Tate Gallery and the ICA in London. She was also commissioned by the Film & Video Umbrella in the UK. Shows in Israel include the Tel Aviv museum, Herzliya and Petach Tikva museums and more. In 2000 a solo show of her work was presented at the Rosenfeld Gallery.
Yael has directed short documentary films and TV programmes and worked as a TV promo director and editor in the Israeli TV industry. She received a grant from the New Fund for Cinema and TV.
In 2016 Yael completed the post graduate programme in fine art at Hamidrasha faculty of Art.
