Shshshsh Chandelier
(שששנדליר)

Kinetic light sculpture

2016

Glass, aluminium, timed motor.

The piece "shshsh chandelier", toys with the relationship between sounds, language and objects. Fifty handmade glass "Shin" letters (The Hebrew letter for the sound sh), hang on an aluminum chandelier frame suspended from the ceiling. The sound sh that is used to communicate the idea of silence is challenged by a randomly timed motor that shakes the entire sculpture.  The glass letters rattle against each other creating an alarming tingle, evoking the potential scenario of the entire glass chandelier crashing down.

The piece was made for the group installation "Lobby", which was part of the  graduation show of the Postgraduate programme, Hamidrasha faculty of art.
